Government Official Confirms MoD Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Advised to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while staff have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret matters in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to discuss classified information while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister stated that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that security is a concern in all contemporary cars.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their car, to avoid having discussions at a secret classification in any car, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Background

The revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to disable buses and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing lasers at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This wider security situation underscores the importance of robust measures and caution in every aspects of government activities, from vehicle use to discussions habits.
